5/26/2008May Happenings
Can’t believe May is almost over! This month has really flown by; it’s been a mixed bag regarding happenings, but here are some of the highlights:
- I got a new job. I'm still at CVTC but will be doing something new for part of my time--I'm the Director of the Title III Grant which mainly focuses on increasing alternative delivery (online, weekend, evening, et cetera) classes and increasing our articulation with UW River Falls. It's started pretty slow so far so I'm pretty neutral in my like/dislike of it.
- We celebrated our three year anniversary on May 14th. Good times.
- We went for our first bike ride of the summer and I think we're going to attempt to ride our bikes at least once a week come June.
- We started refinishing the pool table so it's ready when the basement carpet gets installed which should be early next month--we're still waiting on getting the sheet rock mudded, sanded and textured and the project is taking a bit longer than expected, but that's okay. It'll get done eventually.
- We got addicted to The Office. We watched seasons two and three over the weekend--stayed up until 3:00am last night...it's sooo funny. Season four just ended but I think we're going to watch the episodes online off NBC's website.
- We went to Milwaukee to visit Eric's grandparents over the weekend and had a really good time. We just hung out in the city, went to a couple restaurants, an outlet mall, and saw the new Indiana Jones movie...it's so great to just hang out and do nothing sometimes.

5/4/2008Thanks George
With our George Bush money we are moving things along with our basement project. We ordered carpet today, and will soon be getting the walls mudded, sanded, and textured. Sequentially, the walls will get done before the carpet, but we bought carpet first because Menards was having a sale (thanks John). Then the basement will be usable and Eric can reassemble the pool table which he's been anxiously awaiting. I'm excited for our recent progress and the long awaited project is finally moving forward again.

5/1/2008Packaging
Two packaging related tidbits to reveal
- Eric bought me a package shark as kind of a joke, but I actually really like it! It's opened all of those items that are encased in the heavy duty plastic like curling irons or some tools.
- I bought some Roasted Garlic Triscuits (quite tasty by the way) and when I tried to open them I was thwarted by some industrial strength sealer used to secure the cardboard top. I ended up ripping it into several pieces just to get it open rendering the little tab closure totally useless. The crackers are already vacuum sealed--why they gotta do that? I've had similar issues with the last couple boxes of granola bars we bought...after you open the seal at the top, you find it's still connected to the sides of the box and you have to rip a perforated section to get it open...we usually end up ripping off the entire top. It's crazy!
